Unit 1

unit 1

Introduction

In this unit you will get familiar with the main principles of the speaking skills.

Giving a presentation / delivering a monologue speech can be easy and successful if you keep in mind the following key points:

  1. good introduction (What is your topic?)

  2. clearly structured main part (body of your speech)

  3. straightforward conclusion (main points and ideas)

It is important to use certain expressions to structure your speech (e.g. The topic is...., First I'll talk about..., To sum up...)

When taking part in a dialog it is equally important to know how to listen to your partner and how to react to his statements and arguments. A well formed persuasive argument will keep communication going and make it interesting. In a discussion/dialogical speech you should pay attention to your partner’s statements, show tolerance and understanding.

Learning outcomes of this unit
