  In order to get the best experience and most benefits of MoER course we advise you to install Statistica Software Package on your computer (instructions are given bellow), and to familiarize yourself with the project Global Entrepreneurship Monitor before we start with on line lectures.

  During the course we will work on the exercises for which you will need to install Statistica Software Package on your local computer. To get the most of the on line lectures kindly follow the instructions and install Statistica before the January 14th, 2021.

  GEM database preparation

  • GEM databases and description - this part will be used in Lesson 4 - students need to download these datasets before Lesson 4

    The statistical test that you will run in the lesson 4 will use the GEM datasets.  It will be excellent to download data as instructed bellow, before we start with lesson 4 (January 15th). 

  • GEM data.7z - download this zip file to your computer and extract

    When you download the above archive to your local computer and extract it in a folder, there should be 8 files in the folplease do the following:

    • open the file 0_readmefirst.pdf
      
    • read the content of the file, and when you see a hyperlink, click on it in order to access files. 

    To be able to see all the files, you need to previously install Statistica software package on your local computer.

  • It's time for lab work! Let's have fun and get hands dirty!

    In this lesson, we will work in the computer lab using Statistica software package to run stastical tests.

    Lesson outcomes
    

    You will learn how to examine if there is a relationship/difference/dependence between two or more variables, what statistical test is appropriate depending on the type of examined variables, and how to explain the obtained results.

    For this purpose, we will use several datasets from GEM database.

    
    

    What do I need to run the tests?

    We have prepared datasets for you, and if you work from your home, all you need to do is to:

    • download datasets to your computer, and 
      
    • install Statistica software using our instructions at the top of the page

    Your task in Assignment 3 is to review the scientific paper:  
    

    Arenius Pia and Ehrstedt Stefan: Variation in the Level of Activity Across the Stages of the Entrepreneurial Startup Process – Evidence from 35 Countries, Estudios de Economia, Vol. 35 - N° 2, 2008. pp. 133-152.

    Detailed information on how to perform a review is available in the Lesson 2 on loomen MoER interface (presentations handouts, video, flyer, Cheat Sheet). The article is available on the loomen MoER site, Lesson 3, Elective readings.  Alternatively you can make a review of any of the suggested elective journal papers (excluding, book chapters or notes).
    

    Your assessment and evaluation in a Word document file (3-6 pages long) can be uploaded in the  'Assignment 3 - upload' folder  not later than FEb 22nd, 2021 (until 23:55 - Central European Time).  Here are few tips you can use:  provide evidence about specific moves in the Introduction or Discussion section of the paper as well as a few details about Methods or major results. Is the article clear, understandable and does it deliver what the authors promised? In addition, you may put few comments about your personal view on the topic, its importance and contributions of the authors.
